Sand castles are fun! I do admit, that I do not like beaches. I try to stay away from them as much as possible. This year however, I made it to a beach, and I'm more tanned than I have ever been. Its kinda weird. Is it October yet?

i do not like the beach. i am very white and i burn very easily. i also do not like the ocean. however, building san castles is okay. it makes me think of being a kid and going to the beach every week when it was summer.

PEOPLE WATCHING.

I guess I have my ipod on too (as always) but the main attraction of the beach is laying in the sun, listening to the birds and the surf (such as there is surf in the midwest) and watching the various eye-candy and/or public diasters parading around in front of you. good times.

walking!
long stretches - usually longer that I set out to, because that landmark on the horizon always seems nearer than it actually is, and then you have to walk all the way back as well

Why is "surfing" not an option?

FISHING.

behind that... well, nothing, but if it is super hot (technically there are no real beaches in MN) then I'll swim for a bit to cool off before getting back to the fishing.

if I'm in Chicago and not MN then reading (and people watching!) takes 1st place, followed by swimming.

but nothing beats a campfire after dark. nothing.

...wait...

What's constitutes a "real beach" if there
aren't any here in Minnesota?

[i LOVE campfires.]

I'm not really sure. I just know that all the lakes I frequent don't usually have more than 20 feet of sand, if that much. it's more rocks and grass, which is fine.

and anywhere that doesn't have the typical beach sand or a nice place to swim always takes a backseat to fishing.

I usually end up laying on the dock and reading cuz its a better place than the "beach". a lot of beach areas are contructed that way for tourists. I'm always a little more hesitant about man-made vs natural. like when they haul in sand and rocks and poison the weeds to create a beach. but not to say that is all there is in MN.
