I´m into Belgium music right now, I can´t help but feel that it´s a better country then the Netherlands.

I also bought my first Ben Harper CD, diamonds on the inside, and it´s beautifull...

Sad to say, but I´ve copied Lou Reed, but the man has enough money, he doesn´t need mine.

Grant, you are in Florida right? They are playing 2 shows on the same night at Rollins College here in Orlando and I think they are playing a night in Miami...

Two great new albums I'm really loving right now are Pinback: Summer in Abaddon and The Grails: Redlight. If you love really amazing and emotional instrumental music, do check out The Grails. They made me pick up my violin and start playing again, they are so talented!

They will be in Miami on Tuesday Dec. 7 at the Manuel Artime Theater at 8:00pm for the price of $19 -tickets can be bought here. They are playing two shows at Rollins on Thursday Dec. 9 - one at 6pm and a later show at 9:30pm - tickets for that show are $20.

Well, as for bands to the north, I did manage to get Of Montreal's "Panic in the Satanic Attic" and it is quickly growing on me.

I had to tell somebody, I am so excited- looks like I will be flying to the UK in a coupla weeks and seein The Pogues in Manchester...I can't wait!!

Ok, So new music NOT to buy. I bot the Gwen Stefani...thing. It's horrible. No matter how much you can't resist the single, RESIST buying the album. It's really awful.

That is a pretty good cd - however are they really "of Montreal"? I thought they were from Georgia - part of the Elephant 6... but maybe I am crazy..

Another song I can't get away from "New York Girls" by The Monney Suzuki... soo catchy...

Well, I looked 'em up (as much as I love music, I'm not much for music trivia), and Of Montreal is in fact from Athens GA, which explains the links on their website to the Summer Hymns and Elf Power, two groups I very much dig. So now I am left to wonder if in fact I own ANY Canadian music other than Kathleen Edwards and perhaps some old KD Lang.

Well if you are looking for some good Canadian music... I highly reccomend The Tragically Hip as a starting point - Phantom Power is my favorite album - Live Between Us is their live album which is pretty great too. They have been around a while and have a lot of stuff out there. I prefer their earlier work over their past 3 releases....

Canadian music? Are the New Pornographers no longer "in" or something? I sure do like them. Manitoba is from Manitboa, correct? Up in Flames was a decent album.

Also, aside from Beulah (great band), weren't all bands in the Elephant 6 collective from Athens, Georgia?

I didn't mean to slight the New Pornographer's - I guess I was being partial to Ontario based bands... but there are a lot of great Canadian bands out there now....Broken Social Scene, Sloan, The Arcade Fire (Rebellion(Lies) - addictive song), The Dears, Ron Sexsmith....and who can forget Bryan Adams....

i totally support the ben harper nod. i suggest starting with "live from mars". if you like folky type stuff check out deb talan and steve tannen (the weepies) they are playing conner byrne in seattle on the 12th if anyone is interested. mogwai, the commas, the libertines, m83, the new rem(around the sun). also if you want some good background music the soundtracts to dopamine and garden state rock! check out dopamine it's a great sundance indie movie with john livingston (ron livingston's of "office space" and burger from "sex in the city" little brother) and sabrina lloyd (from "sports night").

I'm a huge Hip fan, but then being Canadian, that's sort of like saying "My body needs oxygen (or beer) to survive". I actually just saw them play this Saturday, my fifth Hip show and typically fantastic.

As for other Canadian recomendations, Gordon Downie (the lead singer of the aforementioned Tragically Hip) put out his second solo album in 2003, it's called Battle of the Nudes and it's wonderful. Other past and present Canuk greats that have yet to be mentioned and are currently floating around in my head: Hot Hot Heat, The Superfriendz, The Flashing Lights, Death from Above 1979, Hayden, Controller Controller, Sarah Harmer, The Rheostatics. Pretty darn good every one of them.

I have to admit complete ignorance regarding Of Montreal, but on the good word of this board, I checked them out last week and, there's no other way to say this, I'm in love. Thanks.
