rock cottage

Postby Liesbeth » Tue Mar 07, 2006 1:50 pm

sorry to bother you with my private life, but we just booked our holiday at Rock Cottage in Donegal, Ireland. About 5 miles away from Ireland's northernmost point. 50 meters from the shore. And the cottage has a fireplace. Which I think rocks.

I'm jealous. When are you going? SXSW is my only "vacation" until September.

If you have Wifi out there (in the wilderness?) you should totally post from the northern most tip of Ireland.

I wouldn't worry about "bothering" us with your personal life! I love to hear how others are spending their vacations (jealous). Especially when they go to really cool places like Ireland (really jealous), and get to spend it in a cottage (really really jealous), very close to the north atlantic ocean (really really really jealous). I hope you take some pictures (so I can continue to dream to go there), so we can see how awesome of a time (really really really really jealous) you had there!

My vacation is Sasquatch! this year, with some really awesome people, who just might frequent this board. Really!

I am undecided about Sasquatch. I should go, and I know I should go.
But you wouldn't like me there. :(

I make it a point not to bother with internet or computers on my holidays, so my posting about going there is about the most exotic it gets. But we will take photos. And my husband found this out, after we had already booked:

Tourists and visitors may not be familiar with the fact that Malin Head is the sunniest place in Ireland!!!!

We're going at the end of July, so I have over 4 months of giddy anticipation.

ps LSJ, you're flying further than I am, so don't be too jealous. Although, I bet Ireland has better beer than Sasquatch.

That sounds like a gauntlet being thrown down Liesbeth! I demand you participate in the beer list-off! Your vacation vs my vacation, to determine which location has the better beers!

Here's how it works: we each keep a list of beers we drink over the period of time, and mark the ones you would drink all the time if available off vacation.

I have this odd feeling you're going to win. But I challange thee anyway!

I can tell you straight up that it's Smithwicks, all the way. It is one of the reasons I keep going back to Ireland (this is my 5th time). Smithwicks is rarely sold outside of Ireland, although we found an Irish pub in Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands, which had it on draught last year. It is a total shame that the Irish keep it to themselves but a good reason for coming back.

I sincerely hope there is a pub at walking distance from our cottage.

We can get Smithwicks here in Buffalo! I don't know about Seattle however. Oh, I think the contest will be grand!

hey, this contest is about quality of beer, not quantity, is it?
I read about a barsuk board beer night, so Joseph could well win either way, with the help of the Chrisses.
By the way, Sasquatch has a pretty good line-up this year. I mean, NIN, what more could one ask for?

I went to ireland a couple years ago. it was off-season, but still beautiful. we went on a ring of kerry tour, which was amazing. it was the first time I saw the ocean. it was my avatar for a long time-- my first moments with the ocean. tickets were $99 one way (which is cheaper [usually] than flying to mn from chicago, what the?). one of my friends called me a couple weeks before we went and said "what are you doing for valentine's day and how quickly can you renew your passport?"

it was awesome.

Yes, this is all about quality of beer. However, if we have to drink copious amounts of beer to ascertain it's quality so be it.

Chris, I am more excited!
