Who needs an ark if you can have this:

I was told that before they were used by the US Army in the Vietnam war before they ended up at the ice lagoon... considering that Keflavik used to be a NATO-base until last year, it sounds possible.
And Betty is right, like glaciers everywhere on the planet, this one's on the retreat right now.

I really loved Iceland... normally during the last few days of a vacation, I look forward to going back home, at least a bit; but this time I was just sad.
It's such a beautiful place, and so quiet (fun fact: the further south you go in Europe, the louder people get). Out of the 300.000 people living on the island, 2/3 live in the capital, so when you drive through the country, most of the time all you hear is water (ocean, rain, waterfalls, or hot springs hissing from the ground), or animals (birds and sheep mostly).

And the amount of natural energy resouces they have is ridiculous. (also, hot water used for households comes from hot springs in many places; so they don't even have to heat it up before use) Once it's going to be possible to send electricity over long distances, Iceland will be the new Dubai.

EDIT: you should totally go there during the puffin season (July-mid August)

You know, someone is going to have to go to Africa and Antarctica already so we can get all the continents covered. Seriously. Get on that people.

In that case I might have some questions to ask you before I go (if it'll work out), cos that's exactly where I'm planning to go!
That's cool that your family's from South Africa. So hwat made them hop over the great pond and move to Florida?

In a word, apartheid.

It's more complicated and (slightly) less noble than that makes it sound. The climate's much the same here and even in the late 1960s, the job market was much better.

I'm accessing these here internets via the wifi on the bus I'm riding between NYC and Boston! I'd say this qualifies as a strange place to post from... only a couple years ago I wouldn't have believed it!

Definitely qualifies! Roadtrips by rolling vehicles makes for some of the best traveler mindsets.

Although I think it's already been done, I'll have to post from Japan when I move there in April.

I am writing this from the small town of Jelling, Denmark - a former capital of Denmark and former home of king Gorm the Old and his son King Harold Bluetooth, who first forced christianity upon the Danes as an official religion. I suppose that is a strange place to post from, but nonetheless I live here.

Also i did not know where to introduce myself, so hi!

hej da Kasper, meget velkommen til Long Winters boardet!
I don't have a strange place to post from, so I figured I would use a strange language instead.
