Farewell WOXY

Postby ImLost@Sea » Fri Sep 15, 2006 8:26 am

I don't know how many people here listen to or even know what WOXY.com is, but it is an independent internet radio station run by four people out of Ohio. As of today, Friday the 15th of Sept. 2006, it is ending its broadcasting forever due to lack of funding. They made a career of broadcasting edgy and different music far from the mainstream but still had a pretty good but evidently broke following. I mention this here because WOXY is the first place I heard of a little band called The Long Winters, who not only were played regularly but also did an in-studio session called Lounge Acts which I'm sure my co-workers in adjacent cubicles are sick of hearing (acoustic Ultimatum/The Commander Thinks Aloud on repeat). It's sad to me because I can't stand the music played on conventional radio and resort to internet and satellite radio to hear a better and infinitely more talent-filled playlist of music while at work. Farewell WOXY, thanks for trying and cheers for accomplishing the impossible at least for a little while.

It would be cool to hear that acoustic "Commander."

That really sucks. When WOXY went from terrestrial to internet only, I was very worried that it wouldn't be able to make it. Apparently it couldn't.

I remember when I got my WOXY T-shirt, I thought I was going to be the coolest kid in Iowa - Indie Cred just OOZing outta me.

The next day, literally, a buddy of mine says "Check out what I got" and shows me the same damn shirt.

Anyway, it's a real loss for people who love good music.

"97X... BAM..... the FUture of Rock and Roll"

OK, so WOXY is back after getting an investor off its message board.

This is good people. Very good.

Apparently the people at LaLa.com have aquired them and put them back on the 'net waves. Not sure the cross-promotion specifics, 'sept LaLa gets their record library to use in its stuff, they build a new Lounge Act studio in LA (to go with what they already have in Ohio) and Shiv and the crew are back.

Looked at the Lounge Act scheulde, and it is filling up fast.

And the online stream is free again, so go over and check it out (woxy.com).

Looks like I'll have to go back to the KEXP/WOXY every other day schedule.

Long live the Future of Rock and Roll!!!!
