Reasons to live.

Post by grant »

We are now entering the period some actuaries tell us is the peak of suicide season. More people decide in the time shortly after New Year's Day that life is not worth living than during the rest of the year.

This community must stand against despair. Thus, I propose a collection of reasons to live.

Ground rules:

1. Be sincere. No "ironic" notes of despondency or nihilism for "humorous" effect.

2. Be succinct. This means brief, but thorough -- please explain why your reason for living is, in fact, a reason for living. Two or three words would do.

Give me hope, Cattywampus.

Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live. -Dorothy Parker

Whatever happened to sincere and succinct?

Anyway, how about five balls of cute (not mine).
I have never met a kitten that hasn't cheered me up, seriously. But maybe that only works for the female part of world population.

...because Neko Case is still alive too and you can hear her sing.
...because the LDubs are still making music and if you die you are gonna miss the next album.
...because a series of people in the future will inevitably make you laugh so hard it hurts under your ribs.
...because there are so many countries to visit for the first time (aka euphoric education.)
...because there are totally gonna be hovercars in the future, don't you want to see that?

Before anyone else had written any replies, I went home last night and made a stir fry. Red bell peppers, onions, garlic & ginger.

Tossed some frozen lima beans into the rice at the last minute on a whim.

It was a life-affirming meal, easily assembled with the few actual foods in the fridge.

Thus: the internet. That's a reason to live.
