Winterball

Postby Betty Felon » Thu Apr 03, 2008 12:12 pm

Hi Friends!

It's that wonderful time of year again, when we forgive MLB for its annual horrible behavior and jump into another season of fanatical cheering and statistics obsessing. I can't wait!

Any interest in getting back into Winterball? Full season or shall we wait until July and start a mid-season league?

Post here if interested. And hurry...we only have a few weeks if want to do a full season. Everyone is welcome!

I'm in. Full season sounds good if we can get it going...

I'd also vote for head-to-head rather than Rotisserie (simply because I've never really bothered to figure out how rotisserie works, if anybody cares to give me a short primer I'd appreciate it). Also, the HD board league is rotisserie and variety is good :)

The HD board has a fantasy league? They totally copied us!

I like head-to-head because it facilitates laziness and smack talk better. Also, someone can be winning all season and then lose in the playoffs with a bad week. haha.

Well, I copied us (at least originally).

I also agree about head to head.

Allrighty. I was bored at work (no way!) so here we go:

League ID: 294858
Password: winterball

Autodraft is the only option this late in the season and I left most of the scoring stats/position limits as defaults (added hits and OBPS to scoring categories). I'll change categories as people want.

As it stands now:
Roster Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL
Stat Categories: R, H, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

We need to draft by April 26th, so go here to join.

Thanks for being Not Lazy! (I was gonna get to it...I swear!....maybe.)

I'm the Ramen Snacks. I'm also eating Ramen Snacks! Coincidence!

And btw, it's Winterball III....or Blue Diamonds III or whatever III. This is our third season!

Need a few more DL spots. And I recommend making an even number of batting and pitching stats, otherwise there is no reason to watch your pitchers. I would recommend axing Hits (batting average covers it well) and adding K/BB or BB to pitching stats, making it 6 and 6. OR whatever.

(As an aside: I love baseball, and I don't have cable. I could go to a bar to watch baseball, but then I'd get hit on by the 4pm drunks. Would there be any downsides to wearing a fake wedding ring and if still bugged, saying my husband is fighting in Afghanistan? What do you think? Good idea? Horrible idea?)

You can get cable for way less than the cost of a wedding ring! I'm pretty sure some friends have employed that method before, though I almost think if you can say your husband is in Afghanistan with a straight face, you might be able to tell people to get lost firmly without the ring. I've yet to learn to look for rings, but it doesn't pose much of a problem, since I'm pretty unlikely to talk to a stranger anyway.

...uh, would an antenna do the job?

It's not so much Not Lazy as it is Bored In The Lab and Not Wanting To Write :)

DOH! fixed.

Is 3 enough? Or should I go for 4?

Ditched hits, added K/BB.

Any other comments from the peanut gallery? :)

Well, I wasn't going to buy a REAL wedding ring. My fake husband is a poor fake soldier, and my fake love don't cost a thing.

I once showed my ring to someone and he replied that it just meant talking 15 minutes longer to get to business. Maybe you should say your husband is stationed right around the corner for more effect.
