Vampyroteuthis infernalis, lit. "vampire squid from hell"

"V. infernalis is most commonly known for its jet-black skin, the “cape” webbed skin between the arms and eyes that appear blood red at times. It has excellent predator avoidance behavior, including the ability to invert itself, exposing suckers and cirri, making it look as though it is covered in spines.

V. infernalis also has light organs on the tip of each arm and at the base of its fins. The animal will begin to glow and wiggle about while also expelling mucus containing “thousands of glowing spheres of blue bioluminescent light.” While this mucus is being expelled, the vampire squid escapes."

I love that it can turn itself INSIDE OUT and then back again. I wish I could do that. That would be freakin' cool.

well, it's not like it's called wimpy squid, which would be much worse for its self esteem.

I actually think he's kind of cute. I mean, he's no baby giraffe or anything, but those rounded ear flap things?

He's kind of what would would happen if a regular squid mated with jarjar binks, and the offspring then mated with, like, something spikey and biolumenescent.

I relate to my dusky brethren as we are both entirely too gothic.

Cheer up Spooky Skulky Squid: I'll meet you at Hot Topic and buy you a new rubber belt and some sparkly barrettes...
