don't blame Van Basten for that, Robben was injured, and Van Persie only recently recovered from an injury. Only our goalkeeper was up to scratch - he made some spectacular saves - and alas it was his last game for the national team.

i've read that some Turks hope their team loses, because after a Turkish victory quite a few men go out in Turkey shooting in the air; a 10-year old girl got a head wound from a falling bullet, and she's not the only one to have got hurt over the past few years. It's made illegal, but that doesn't prevent it from happening. Imagine if they should be the champions...

Too bad, we don't get any news about the other championships, there is no world outside the EC according to Dutch media. But I feel for Peru, I really do.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.

Did that just happen? Moni, while I feel your for your pain I have to admit I am just unbelieveably impressed w/espana. I am not a fan of PK showdowns but I think we all know that it's not exactly where Spain triumphs - they might possibly be even worse than the Brits - but apparently not anymore! Casillas might get sainthood for this one. Wow. Wow. WOW.

(Now all they have to do is beat that Arshavin kid from Russia who seems to have inherited supernatural powers since they last faced Spain in the Groups.)

*still reeling from the shock of it all*

Well like I said, I am more thank okay with Spain winning--what a lame match tho :-/ It was to be expected, but I was still hoping for more.
Anyway, the tifosi are still the hottest soccer fans in Europe. So many beautiful people in one fanzone, what a waste :) And Luigi Buffon is still the best goalie in the world.

Anyway, here's some crazoniness from the quarter finals:

I have no idea what that means......

..... but I do know what this means (i.e. "I support 2 teams: Austria and whoever beats the Germans" priceless.)!

All games lost, but the fans were still very enthusiastic (they were mostly Austrian):

The Swedes sported some awesome headgear:

I have no idea what that means......

colla xurroseco!

colla is catalan for group / association. Mostly related to popular events such as city fest and traditional folk groups of castellers. Castellers like to do things like this:

OH. MY. GOD. BECKY.

Viva Espana, indeed! What an absolute THRASHING. Shut down Arshavin like clockwork. Well done!

So it's Espana v. Germany now. I am getting goosebumps just thinking about it! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Roll on, Sunday!

Simply awesome (just like those casteller dudes by the way)! The Spaniards really deservedto win this; I couldn't be more happy for them!
The Germans should consider themselves lucky they got so far.

One thing tho, Harrison Ford was watching the game at the stadium, and I wasn't informed? If Indy's in town, I wanna know dammit!

And yes, South Africa in two years. Squid, we're totally going, right? Right??

thankfully there is justice in this world and the best team won! olé!

moni, when you say 'we', do you secretly mean the Austrian and US teams???
actually I always rather like the US soccer team, if only because they are brave enough to play soccer in an american football world. Can't wait for the world championships, the mix of all those different football styles is always so much fun to watch.
