Well, I did read Lacan in school -- though I can't remember if I ever really incorporated much of his work into my papers. (Maybe it was in that Hitchcock class -- or when we did Bergman?)
To be honest, I'm more of a Walter Benjamin girl. I was never much good at teasing meaning out of things with items from the psychoanalytic tool box.

Darling, I must get a meal in me before I answer that.
But, actually, Benjamin discusses cinema and aura *somewhere* in "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction" (*picture me thinking hard and then resorting to Google)
Aha! See sections X-XIII:

He seems locate it outside the film itself, in the offscreen lives of the film idols. Hmm. That might be true for a certain kind of Hollywood product, but doesn't say much about, say, "28 Days Later" or "Igby Goes Down" (both films with well-known actors, but not quite in the Hollywood star system).
And what would Benjamin make of Stan Brakhage?

On the other hand, his whole thesis is that the reproduced art is the aura-less art. Which makes me wonder if aura is really a part of art at all, and not some related phenomenon. Like "preciousness".
I suppose he'd argue that solitary, surviving prints of films (like some of Charlie Chaplin's pictures) kept cloistered in film libraries would have something approaching aura.

Bwaha, I was just about to ask how many bonus points you get for quoting yourself...how many do you get for quoting your own song?
Non-song:
Everyone knows if you hear nothing, you'll never have to listen to a lie
Non-song:
We are driven apart more often by our similarities than by our differences.
Ignorance may be bliss to the ignorant, but to everyone else, it's just annoying.

I'm stealing that, and since I'm in NY, you're helpless to stop me...
(Unless I bring another one of my children to Seattle for a Vera show)
I had a similar one:
"Although I knew it to be a lie,
it was the most beautiful lie I'd ever heard"...

Fits the recent them of the thread, could be my bio in one line, and has been stuck in my head for WEEKS (not entirely a bad thing). Saw them last Wednesday and that's only made it worse in a way, but 'twas a damn fine performance (even if 2 of the 3 openers were really, really, really bad).
