Top 5 of 2009 (I didn't listen to much new music this year, and the Dutch did well this year):
The Decemberists - Hazards of Love (USA)
The Gasoline Brothers - Tsk! (NL)
Club Diana - Brand (NL)
The Horse Company - Olympus (NL)
Jason Molina & Will Johnson - Molina & Johnson (USA)

My favourites of the decade:

1 Ken Stringfellow - Touched
2 The Long Winters - The worst you can do is harm
3 Nada Surf - The weight is a gift
4 Spoon - Gimme fiction
5 John Vanderslice - Time travel is lonely
6 South San Gabriel - The Carlton chronicles
7 Club Diana - Grill/Match/Brand trilogy (NL)
8 Centro-Matic - All the falsest hearts can try
9 Grand Champeen - The one that brought you
10 Rogue Wave - Descended like vultures

One album per artist only, but if I had done more than one album per artist, WIPTF would have made Top5 (probably #4).
With pain in my heart I left out The Decemberists (Her Majesty or The Crane Wife or Hazards of Love), The Bigger Lovers and more Dutch bands.

Really? I thought both Lucky and especially Let Go kick TWIAG's ass.

I think we've had a Nada Surf discussion here before and I was the only one not to recommend Let Go as the first album to get to know Nada Surf. But I'm absolutely sure this is MY favourite by a long stretch.

Ugh. No. Lucky is by far the worst Nada Surf album. Not a BAD album, mind you -- just not in the same league as Let Go, or even The Weight Is A Gift. In fact, I might agree with Liesbeth if I didn't loathe Armies Walk, and to a slightly lesser degree, In The Mirror. There isn't a song on Let Go I would do without.

Edit: I just looked at Lucky again. I think I need to give it another listen before I come on so harsh... I don't know if I really actively dislike any of the songs on it so much as I'm ambivalent about two or three of them.

Edit2: This thread just made me head to NadaSurf.com, where I discovered a presale starts tomorrow morning for a show in March! Hurray everyone in this thread!

I know this is not a Nada Surf topic, but in line with this discussion: "The tour begins March 25th with three "Album Shows" in NYC. On consecutive nights, Nada Surf will perform their three most recent albums: Let Go, The Weight Is A Gift, and Lucky in full."
Wow.

Funny thing, lists, when I see mine now, I might make all sorts of changes. Oh well, ask me again in ten years...
