I hail from the "rough and tumble" city of Everett. WORD.
I am pleased with my place in life. I WORKED today. WORKED! It was fantastopotomous!
don't order steak in ireland. i was in ireland, and still thought it kosher to snack on animals, and ordered a steak. Huge mistake. It was like a piece of leather, peppered and burnt. but other than that, ireland rules.

oooomph - so many things to answer. alright - one by one:
(a) lumping athens, ga, in with athens, greece doesn't work in my universe, it wouldn't be fair on either. as some of the americans here are gonna (re-)discover in september, the gods of athens, greece, can't hold a candle to those of athens, ga. before zeus produces an album equal in quality to murmur i'm afraid he'll stay second class.
(b) heather - since you were last in ireland the food has improved dramatically. it even has over the past year or so. just come back and try again.
(c) tp put ireland in with islands would still mean having it in there with the uk. how about western suburbs of europe? that would lump me in with iceland and i'm cool with that. *g*
(d) goch is indeed a nice place, fair play to ignatz.
(e) regarding the birth of liz - yes, that is indeed how it must have been. ;-P
:-)

Maestro grant, that was beauticious indeed. *post of the day award* (sorry, no money attached)Something along those lines would be lovely.
the food in ireland is very good indeed. they even know how to make proper cheddar. every country that has good cheese is my friend.
well let’s say it would explain quite a few things...regarding the birth of liz - yes, that is indeed how it must have been
I’m all for an all-island option! all in one: iceland, hawaii, ceylon, alaska. well maybe not alaska.
Apart from that, I’ve never been to Long Beach, unfortunately (only made it to Laguna Beach, which isvery nice.). How do you call these cute little birds runing along the water on the beach...?

uuuhhh, learn their names? Hee, the only thing I know about birds is to watch out when they're flying over your head. That, and female penguins will have sex with males in exchange for rocks for their nests.Liz wrote:Apart from that, I’ve never been to Long Beach, unfortunately (only made it to Laguna Beach, which is very nice.). ..just got an image in my head of a pimped out penguin. He looks strangly like Gary Oldman from True Romance..
(I blame the late hour. Or the drugs)

didn't douglas adams mention them in so long and thanks for all the fish? when arthur and fenchurch go to california to meet wonko the sane? he describes them as "moving as if they had been constructed by someone rather clever in switzerland". unfortunately he didn't name them... still, it was a great opportunity to keep his memory alive. *g*Liz wrote:no.BladeRunner wrote:Seagulls?

Quite probably, you are referring to a plover:Liz wrote:no.BladeRunner wrote:Seagulls?

Are you familiar with Adam Ford, the Melbourne poet? Author of the anthology Not Quite the Man for the Job and the novel Man Bites Dog? Wonderful fellow. Just don't offer him meat while dining. I understand he gives readings with some regularity.jen wrote:I am an Antipodian (of the Melbourne, Australia variety).
I like my lot in life, here on this island.
But here it is late, time for bed, while most of you I imagine are soon to be getting up to start your days. I hope you all have a nice one.
Well that looks very close!... are there subscpecies of plovers, cos mines had longer beaks... all I know is that in German they are called "Strandläufer"grant wrote: Quite probably, you are referring to a plover:
EDIT: my online English dictionary told me that little fella is called a "stint" in English. Odd
EDIT II: my "normal" dictionary calls it a sandpiper. your choice...

Yes I am familiar with Adam Ford, but I am afraid only slightly. I remember reading some reviews of Man Bites Dog, and putting that book on the large list in my head of books I have to buy, but I'm afraid I never did. And I have seen his name bandied about town. But that's all, but it sounds like I should get to a reading or similar!? Melbourne is a great town for these kind of things.
