Bands/singers you really tried to like - without success

(topic stolen from murmurs.com)
Counting Crows (Pat McCarthy, uh...)
Starsailor (what a waste of time)
Rolling Stones (not bad, but I just never got into them)
And I’m not sure if I like Grant Lee Buffalo... but I do like GLP’s Mobilize though, that’s for sure. I guess Jubilee wasn’t the right album to get started (but it was only $5.99!). Will have to try some more.

The Smiths. I know they're a huge influence on every band I love, but I just could never get into them. Maybe if I'd heard them when I was 13 and angsty I would have been hooked.

big star huge influence on two of my fave bands (posies & teenage fanclub), one of my husbands faves and I just don't get really get it.
weird thing is, I like the solo stuff!
the replacements my husband's fave so it gets played, but I don't get it.
having said that, I do love Tommy Stinson's solo stuff, if only he didn't play with G 'n R...
postal service such great songs, but where are the guitars? I miss 'em anyway[/i]

the blood brothers. ick.

Too numerous to mention. And I'll get in big trouble to boot. You know my band-mates are thought-police, don't you? Wait... someone's coming. I have to...urk.

Good thread idea.
I agree with the Stones. Why are these guys still around?
Post-OK COMPUTER Radiohead stuff.
Velvet Undergound/Lou Reed

i agree w/him. altho it's not so much that i have tried to like a band, it went more like this...
i hear a hype about a band...i'll pick ones recently...the yeah yeah yeahs or taking back sunday. so there's this huge hype, everyone's talking about them, all the kids love them and then i hear them...and the reaction goes something like this....*start scene* "ARE YOU SERIOUS??!?!?! THIS IS THEM?!?!? THIS IS CRAP!!!" *end scene*
so there are 2 bands i really don't like and don't understand why anyone else does.
thank you *bows*

I agree with the "yeah yeah yeah's", and boy do i miss the guitars on the Postal Service, but i'll love Gibbard's voice till i die. Honestly, not because of their singers.
As an aside im about to pull out my replacements double set now;)

Led Zeppelin (although it could be that I dislike Robert Plant), the Stones (post-Exile on Main St.), David Gray, Cursive, some Bright Eyes, some Modest Mouse, Apples in Stereo, the Pumpkins' "Adore", Zwan...and now I'm already out of breath. Purge those demons, man.

still anything billy corgan has ever been involved in. i just don't get the guy, plain and simple. and i guess i should like pearl jam a lot more than i do... starsailor is a subject i do not wish to get started on, tho i have to admit that i did like them for about five minutes just after alcoholic was released.

i've tried really hard to like the white stripes...i just dont. they're overrated, in my opinion. i never really got into dave matthews either.

Jack White sounds like Axl Rose if his testicles were removed by blunt force.
Modest Mouse and The Promise Ring (especially on The Electric Pink EP)
"Lisp Rock" irritates me to no end.

up until last week, i would have said led zeppelin, but thanks to my band mates, i have now listened to "houses of the holy" all the way through twice and i actually genuinely liked it, except for the singing and the lyrics and (some of) the music. really!
not for nothing, but i fucking hate guns n roses*, acdc*, the eagles*, bruce springsteen*, and rush. (*=one or two songs notwithstanding)
i do not hate, but merely dislike pink floyd (post barrett), the police, and U2, except for some hits.
and after two or so years as a long winter, i can honestly say, for the first time in my life, that i am a fan of zz top and van halen.
