I forgot to add my love of baseball, which is also a great source of pain, as I am an unabashed Boston Red Sox fan, born and raised.

I've been to the new ballpark here in Philly twice, one of which was the Phanatic's (that weirdass green mascot) "birthday." Part of the celebration included a mascot tug-of-war between about 12 sports mascots and 1 little kid. The kid, of course, won. As did the Phillies.

And Hutch, my first live professional baseball game was at that park in Arlington. The guy next to me told me that I could go up to any What-A-Burger and tell them my color won on the jumbotron, and I'd get a free soda.

Always? hmmmm... When I was young I liked it a lot. All the neighborhood kids played wiffleball in the street and teeball in the park. Then my parents moved me kicking and screaming to the suburbs where they made me play softball because I'm a girl. In highschool I found music shows and sports became a footnote for awhile...

But now....I love it again. I go to almost every tuesday home game the whitesox play, play fantasy baseball, and read a few books about baseball every summer.

Baseball is an amazing sport, and I'm not surprised that people who aren't otherwise into sports tend to adore it. It's the only sport where the defense controls the ball. It's not limited by a clock, but more by athletic skill, with a giant Pure Luck factor thrown in....so you never know what's going to happen. It's got an awesome history, lore, personalities, traditions, and oodles of statistics for those of us who love to analyse and make theories. And yes, beer and buddies and sun and beer.

Also, Neal Cotts is HOTT.

@ Rangers...it's hard isn't it?....I'm from Chicago, girl, I know all about suffering.

I wonder how much interest is here for a midseason fantasy league. I'd happily play comish. Winterball!!!

Congrats to your kid. Sounds like a Little Leauge all-star in the making.

no, he's pretty athletically challenged, and I cringe every time the ball comes his way, which is why that game was so great.

yeah, heathaloise, those were good times when the Dot Race was in it's prime, and free soda flowed at Whataburger, but it is a thing of the past...

And may I take this opportunity to say that Betty's reverence for the Great Game just provides yet more evidence that she is in fact the coolest chick on this here board.

- my best friend's cat, Felix, especially when he's climbing all over his piano. Actually, I tend to love all cats.
- getting mail from the greatest people/the hottest places (the Canadia! Netherlands! NYC! Seattle!) within a few days. Neat.
- Mauna Kea (because it's over 13,000ft. high, you can go skiing, it's every astronomer's favorite place, it's a [dead] volcano, and it's on Hawai'i, so it basically fulfills pretty much every single criteria that could make a mountain awesome)
- British accent.
- the Posies mailing list.
- lizards
- Ira Elliot's trucker hats (I would not love them if someone else was wearing them).
- every kind of sports I've ever done or at least tried out, from windsurfing to fencing (and especially fencing because I was actually really good at it). Yes, even tennis.
- thunderstorms.
- Umberto Eco.
- snow.
- silly mail/PM-exchanges
- the prospect of doing a hiking tour through Eastern Madeira this fall.
- Typos.
- Eric Z.'s posts on murmurs.com
- living in Vienna

I think I need to do this today. in no particular order:

I love friends that are family and family that are friends.
I love music
I love theatre
I love reading
I love entertainment that challenges me and others (and at times the stuff that challenges nothing plays an important role)
I love NPR. so much.
I love alternative sources of news and entertainment
I love animals. so much.
I love fishing. almost more than anything in the world.
I love manual transmissions
I love the Vikings
I love the Twins
I love the fleeting and rare moments when I feel I can change the world.
I love when I meet people and we think that together we can change the world.
I love not trying to always change the world.
I love traveling. especially alone, although with someone has its moments as well.
I love beer. a lot.
I love food. a lot. especially Thai and Mexican. spicy please.
I love being outside.
I love thunderstorms and sitting out on my balcony during them.

must stop now. ahhh... thank you for this thread. therapeutic indeed.

Me too, if you find them let me know! My grasp on the game is pretty loose: I still don't understand the DH position. I think I'm going to the library for that "Baseball for Dummies" book.
