Interest in iCal schedule of shows?

Is there any interest in us using an iCal calendar for posting upcoming Long Winters shows and events?

What this means:

Anyone would be able to view and print the calendar online in a variety of formats.
Mac OS X nerds would also be able to [url=webcal://ical.mac.com/merlinmann/The32Long32Winters.ics]subscribe to the calendar[/url], adding it to their personal iCal calendar (with automatic updates).

Brocktoon and band: is it factual that you are all either OS 9 or PC? Would this be useful anyway?

Well, I for one would use the calendar on my OS X equipped G4 AND on my 5Gb iPod.

Not being a mac user, I wouldn't be able to take advantage of this option.

Heh, I know that. But as a non-mac user, I am unable to use the service which you were paticularly pushing.

That link is already bookmarked in my favorites folder.

Call me a complete dork, but when I follow that link, I see an empty calendar. When I KNOW that I saw them last week TWICE (did I mention it was really good? Can we have a voting system with the calendar, so that we can see which shows were just plain brilliant and which ones incredible beyond words).

Heh heh, the calender just hasn't been updated in a while. I had the same reaction at first. If you go back a few months you can see the wonderful ical potential though. Very kickass cool, no?

Ah, I get it now. Apart from that I get the feeling of being at work (it's just like an Outlook calendar), I do like the info.

Can we have bulletin board birthdays in as well??

Hey, yeah. That's correct; it hadn't been updated in a while.

I'm not sure there's enough general interest to keep it up at this point, but I can be dissuaded if there's a swell of enthusiasm from my fellow mac nerds. :)

I think a neat project would be for some nice person to maintain the whole barsuk family of bands' schedules on ical. That would be very handy.

Done and done. I'd be happy to do that. Making this one I not only finally learned how to spell Houston correctly, but I gained new respect for the touring bands...what a grueling schedule.

I just realized it would have been more useful to put them on separate calendars, but until I get to that, here they are all on the one.

Please PM me or post here with any edits, misspellings, additions, suggestions for a better format, or anything relevant. All info is taken from barsuk website, therefore times are probably wrong since that info was not available.

Merlin, do you know if it's possible to make/publish separate calendars for the different bands, but be able to see them all at the same time on the web?

We should point Christopher to this if it's something you think you might keep maintaining.

Yeah, if I understand you question, you could do each band as its own calendar and share the same way. Was that what you were asking?

I'm happy to do it and to maintain it until Apple charges so much for .Mac that I can't afford to anymore. ha. Seriously, it's my pleasure, it was a good idea.

And I don't know who Christopher is, but if it will make him happy, then let him know about it.

Anyway, yes, that is my question, is that possible? I know it makes them color coded and view on/offable in iCal, but I'm not at all sure how that works as far as the web. Can you publish multiple calendars into one web page?

...Maybe I'll just play around with it and see.

Barsuk Family iCal calendar has been updated to include The Long Winter's Cultural Imperialism Tour 2003!

Please let me know if I have confused the city/venue on any of the shows because, honestly, I wondered a few times. A couple other Barsuk band shows have been added as well.

Also, I submitted the calendar to iCalshare: http://www.icalshare.com In doing so, I found that many of my city's finer rocknroll establishments had an iCal calendar. Now my personal calendar self-updates everything going on every single night of the week. It's the kickinest, so check and see if your city has one.

All this proves once again that Mac users are seriously serious about being COOL.
