helloooo? the book is totally worth it. we finally got it into the bookstore, after i paced fervently around the receiving area every day to see if it came in (stephanie and i heard dave eggers read from it a few months ago and i've been waiting not-so-patiently for it's release ever since)... if you have the money, please get the whole package. it's beneficial to the cause that everyone should be working towards... and it's funny! amazing! ridiculous! and filled with wonderful music to boot.

Where did you order from - Barsuk, MoveOn, or McSweeney's?
I ordered mine from MoveOn, and got it about ten days later. Barsuk is really quick on shipping things, but I don't know if they'll send it out before the official release date. (I think it's 8/17 or something...?)

Wow. This was my first Long Winters track. Very impressive, even the Tropic of Capricorn bit... that would have been just about the right position for those kinds of thoughts to start. Guess I have some CD purchases to make...
So, seeing as how this track is on a "political" CD, what kinds of implications should I be getting about the current administration's role in what the song talks about? And then the funding boost? Didn't that happen afterwards? ... Almost seems fishy. (Or have people been talking about this while I was hiding under rocks?)

I wrote: but I remember Eric telling me they recorded a more lush (my words, not his) version.
I knew that I didn't remember it right, and now that I've heard the song, thanks to the KEXP-link, I think what Eric actually said was that all sorts of layers were added, which would go with this version.
Don't sue if that is not what he said at all, I make a lousy witness. Funny though, how somehow this got stuck in my head as 'lush'...

What it sounds like?
Hmm.
A bit open. Very much not the traditional guitar-bass-drums lineup, begins with acapella vocals, joined by "Octopus' Garden"-style piano, occasional strings, keyboard pads, electronica pads... and lots of shifting effects on the drums and piano.
Almost like a collaboration with Air or Brian Eno.
