kexp bbq show?

Post by megan »

...I've been away from my computer for a long time, so I'm sorry if this has already been discussed a million times. the John In the Morning email says something about the LWs playing at the KEXP bbq on August 13th, is that right or am I just reading what I want to see?

I heard the news on Stevie Zoom's show today.

Man, I really miss that guy on weekdays. They've stuck him on graveyard, or something - I never hear him anymore.

Must have been caught playing too much Old 97's.

I'll be at the KEXP BBQ. Looks like the Fruit Bats thing is solo acoustic. I might go to that.

i don't usually post here because you guys are all intimidating, but i went to the show tonight and it was superb! i'd never seen them before live, and it was perfect. i met john and he was nice and they played Seven at my request. it was the ultimate first long winters show. thanks!!!!

awwes, you should totally be un-intimidated. if I can manage to muddle my way around this place, anyone can!

I'm glad you had a good time at the show. I'm super bummed I missed it. (seriously, how did I miss a kexp event? what the hell happened with that? also, I just realized I missed an afterparty... crap....hmm..train of thought returning...)

do you remember which other songs were played?

Seven is such a nice song. I think it's fantastic that John et. al. is so cool about playing requests. I'm glad you had a good time, Phil.

Was anyone from the taper community there to record audio?

I'm looking for a source...

Thanks

you're not inherently more intimidating than the HDers but i have a big number after my name there, so i feel like i fit in, plus i've got enough seniority to know some inside jokes. here i'm completely insignificant. and i actually got john's set list written on a ripped cardboard box. it went a little something like this:
stupid
teaspoon
rich wife
shapes
pushover
delicate hands
blue diamonds
fire island
(here they were planning on playing hindsight but succumbed to some people shouting for carparts instead)
sound of coming down
it's a departure
--here they go into an encore that wasn't really an encore because they didn't leave the stage, and everything is by request--
seven (i got this by waiving seven fingers at john)
thirty seconds of mimi
cinnamon
medicine cabinet pirate

i've probably forgotten something, but that's what i remember. john's banter was in fine form. also some drunk guy kept requesting fire island after they'd already played it and came back and asked for it at least ten times. it was a spectacular show.

About Mimi... John said they're slowing working it back in. 30 seconds of it this show, 45 seconds the next show. I'd like to hear Sky Is Open but John said they don't know how to play it live yet.

Thank you John. By the time you hit Toronto, I hope you'll have at least three minutes of Mimi worked out. <3

we tried, but he said something about being in a haze when he wrote it so they played it once and never could again.
