Hey, I love this idea!
Squid, you better throw your 2006 interview in the capsule too!
I'm about to see the Long Winters again for the first time in over 2 years. It will be the first time I hear the songs "The Commander Thinks Aloud", "Honest", and hopefully, "It's a Departure" live. I am really happy about this (empahsis on the understatement).
Right now, at the beginning of 2007, based on a vague awareness of buzz and the Cochella band list, it looks like metal is gaining strength on the trend front. I think this will be a good influence. I'm counting on Squid and Grant for guidance in navigating the treacherous waters of metal...which I imagine populated by all sorts of monsters, machismo and, like, total cheese...but if those two souls dig it, there is something worth paying attention to.
I also hope our LDubs continue to evolve, and I am also remembering some interview that mentioned metal as a strong influence, so I'm wondering what they'll do with it. And will there be monster ballads?
Of course, I could be way off and metal is not coming back. Or it will, but it will be a short embarassing blip on the charts (like that slightly creepy band with the "I believe in a thing called love" song). Who knows.
This board is a pretty special place, and continues to be so even as members leave and new ones arrive. Liesbeth is a special warm and witty constant, making sure we don't miss a thing, keeping it all organized on her website; and for the record I think she has a better mastery of the English language than I do. And also, Jason should be noted for all his seemingly effortless effort on the technical side...you are pretty amazingly generous, man. And thank all of you for being so darn friendly, for being so forthcoming with all your genius knowledge, and sharing your babies born and other little ones thriving, lives changing, careers growing, pain and happiness expressed, and all the goofy energy and humor of totally shameless fandom. I think you are all really neat humans. That is how I feel, thank you and goodnight. [/speech]
As for me, I just returned to America from 16 months living in Japan. Living abroad changed my life....no, enlarged and clarified it, which is great in combination, I recommend it to everyone. I'm now returning to school, which is awesome because I'll soon qualify as a Grad Student member of the board, and not just a General Kook.
Also, I just turned 29 today (go go Pisces!), and to those ladies on this board without olive skin-- Wear your sunscreen, dammit!
