John says he's playing his Rickenbacker every day -- so hopefully something good is coming from his noodling. But I think you can expect to wait another 18-24 months for another record. I'm sure John will be on KEXP playing some new tunes for you by this time next year, though. Remember when he first played Ultimatum and Fire Island, AK on KEXP? Gave me shivers.

hm, I took sour's remark to be an ironic take on the slightly long time between album 2 and 3. But he forgot to think up another ep, so that's deducted on his scorecard.
I'm all for a bet on when documentary is done. Best guess gets to say 'I told you so', and the rest get to throw things at him/her for being a smartypants. Adam should take part also, I for one would love to see if he can win this thing or not!

I think Sour's estimate comes more from the average amount of time it takes a band to record a record and tour it, to come home and record another record.
I don't mean to say that with certainty, but with some subtle observations of my own record collection, most bands have an album out around the 2 year mark.
I think it was in the The Onion's AV Club last week (or the week before), where they spoke to John Vanderslice about his iPod contents, where he said he used to take 12-18 months for a record, but with touring in between now, it is more like 18-24.
So when do we get to see those films?

Wow, I didn't mean to be so controversial!
I was going on the idea that it'll take some months to pen, practice, record, overdub, master, produce, market and distribute (oh, the work that goes into a single cd!). Considering, the last I heard, the band went on separate vacations while J.R. wrote the songs, I figured the process wouldn't be something you'd be seeing terribly soon. LSJ is exactly right -- the process between a band's tour to next album is almost uniformly 18-24 months. Unless you're a machine, like John Vanderslice. So it's a guesstamite I threw out there. Thus the "think" and "expect" as opposed to "know" and "count on". ;)
Congrats on the completion, Nature Boy. Wooooooooo! I can hardly wait. :)

i want a long winters metal song.
ooh, i think he might want you to be a little more specific. I mean, this is the guy who will say he loves such-and-such metal band, only to go on that just the first one/two/three albums are in his good book.
having said that, I would swoon if the new album could have at least one double guitar solo (is that a correct phrase? I mean Thin Lizzy or Iron Maiden kinda double, you know, like, doublE!)
