I went as high as 247.84 (24/7-HD), before tapping out...
I can't believe a 15 yr old cassette tape that was found in a desk drawer,
sold for $380!!!

I seriously question the condition of the item, since it was opened and played...
We don't know who the winner is, or if he's going to share the never before heard retro-HD wealth with the rest of us...

My only beef is, if something that rare, went for that much,
then the band could pump out a few copies on CD,
for like $20-$25 a pop, and all would be right with the world...

See: You Can Play These With Chords.

That tape was also going for mad coinage before the Barsuk cd release.

I've met the guy who sold it a couple of times and he seems like the type that would take really good care of his stuff.

You know... from the four or five conversations I had with him. He was selling all kinds of old school stuff in order to help pay for his return to college. So at least it's going to a good cause.

I got all that old shit. Harvey demos, DCFC handmade crapola, Chris Walla's sweat in a vial, etc., but when the WSH crap goes through the roof I'll make a mint!

Seriously, though, Sean Nelson has boxes and boxes of the rarest Seattle music scene stuff, because he actually bought demo tapes from bands at shows in addition to writing for the Stranger for all those years. When he unleashes the archives, look out! Also: Pete Greenburg at the Croc. His collection is bananas.

Are you kidding? I've already offered $50+ for an original WSH demo tape.

But I'm a special kind of loser.

well, arguably, the long winters are arguably "bigger" than harvey danger, so they should have more crazed devoted fans, so their deleted old demo stuff should likewise sell for large sums of cash!

I think that would be a difficult argument to make. Harvey Danger had Flagpole Sitta as a HUGE hit some years ago now, so they're at least recognizable as "That band with the Paranoia song" to just about anyone older than six in 1998 (or was it 1999?).

The Long Winters haven't had that break-through single yet which has got them any quantifiable sort of mainstream attention -- although they do get a fair amount of independent and blog-related press.

was Harvey Danger on a major label for that single?
I remember never seeing them again after that, but picked up little by little a few months ago, and i love it.
I remember reading an old 2003 ish interview with ben gibbard, saying how he had friends who got screwed over my major labels, maybe that was them?

Nope. That was still an indie label, from what I can tell. Chances are more likely that Gibbard was talking about Nada Surf.

don't know if Slash/London qualifies as a major label, but with HD's second album the band got caught up in major label machinations for sure, so Gibbard might have been talking about them after all. Don't know if he's friends with the Posies: he might have been talking about their not so hot Geffen experience...

i wonder about this with all the crap i've collected over the years from bands. granted most of them never got a lot of notice. only those who really liked those bands would care so i don't know if i could get much for anything.

uummm, i have a lot of stuff from bands like nevada bachelors, peter parker, the cunninghams, super deluxe, etc, etc. bands from around that general late 90's, early 2000's time.
