I was reading the Stranger's blog, and saw this and laughed a little, so I thought I'd share.
People Talking and Singing at Town Hall
We are all good at different things. Some of us are very good at music (Rosie Thomas, Geologic of Blue Scholars). Some of us are very good at writing (Dave Eggers). Some of us are very good at writing about music (Sasha Frere-Jones). Some of us are very good at being funny (Eugene Mirman, Todd Barry). When has so much good been in one place, in support of such a good cause (826 Seattle)? John Roderick, who isn't good at anything, hosts. See interview, page 59. (Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, brownpapertickets.com. 7:30 pm, $35–$100, all ages.)

Upon a little investigation, I found this interview with John and Dave Eggers.

(I have no idea who Fat Albert is) Thanks for posting! Buuut what exactly did he sing? Old songs, new songs, bad songs, good songs, cover songs, whistling songs, songs with less cowbell, songs about tendosynovitis? Inquiring minds need to know.leigh wrote:In addition, there was the added surprise of being the first audience to listen to John sing sans one of his front teeth?!?

sorry to spoil the fun, but the tooth was missing already at the Pike Place Market performance in August. Clearly visible on the YouTube clips from that show, although thankfully no wheezing side sounds. I do wonder if this makes for some good whistling though.leigh wrote:In addition, there was the added surprise of being the first audience to listen to John sing sans one of his front teeth?!?
John played only two TLW songs: Pushover (1 guitar) and The Commander Thinks Aloud (1 piano). I thought he did a great job of projecting a strong stage presence in spite of not receiving the same amount of energy from the audience as he would at a show. He and Rosie Thomas also took about 5 audience requests and played ~30 seconds of Freebird, Stairway to Heaven, the theme to Charles in Charge...and a couple others. They ended the event by having a sing-a-long with the audience of Silent Night--and John infused it with a shot of gospel.

it probably ends up being a really boring story. altho you hope it's as exciting as "some random person came up and popped me in the mouth" it probably is more along the lines of "i fell in the shower".No You Are wrote:Who punched him in the face?leigh wrote: In addition, there was the added surprise of being the first audience to listen to John sing sans one of his front teeth?!?
you would think he'd have that fixed by now but you know musicians...no cash and no insurance. should we start a benefit? "help buy john a tooth!"
