Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
Freakin' dammit. After the last few years of going to Bumbershoot and being terribly disappointed each year, they are not allowed to put three bands (Modest Mouse, De La Soul and, of course, TLW) that I want to see in the sneak preview.
Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
Sheryl Crow and JRod hooking up would create the next great gossip column couple: "CROWDERICK".
I, for one, am all for it.

Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
i just read my bumbershoot email and saw this. after having a horrible bumbershoot experience a few years ago i swore i would never go again. so while scanning thru the band names thinking "whatever, i'm not going anyway", i saw THAT. damn you long winters, damn you! it all depends when they are playing though because i may not be able to go anyway. but if i can i'm totally bringing the kid. you'd die john, he's very big since you last saw him, oh um, about 7/8 years ago. oh..and of course i'd bring that guy i still haven't married yet (looooooong engagement).

Oh la la. Have we found a new drummer? Or did we bribe Nabil to make the trip out?

That seems like a really weird lineup. I don't quite know what to make of it.

Well, it's super incomplete for now. Once it starts filling in a bit, I think it'll make more sense.Betty Felon wrote:That seems like a really weird lineup. I don't quite know what to make of it.

Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
the long winters are bumbershoot fresh:
http://www.bumbershoot.org/fresh/tag/long-winters
also, for those interested, bumbershoot has started listing whose playing on what day. the long winters are playing sept 5th which is a saturday so me and the brood may be present. unfortunately it could clash with my son's football, it depends on the time. so goes the life of a jock's mom....august thru november my social calendar is basically closed for football season.

John confirmed this gig on that blog interview posted in Swoon. He says he hopes to have finished the album by then, so those of you lucky enough to go will likely be privy to brand new material!

I got my ticket already. Flying up from Socal to see it. I can't wait!

Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
wow...that's really later than i thought it would be. i'll have to see how we all feel after a day of football to determine if we have the energy.
Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
My oh my, the Bumbershoot lineup this year might be the most underwhelming one I've ever seen. They scheduled De La Soul and TLW at the same time, and then Metric and Modest Mouse at the same time, as well. Thanks, Bumbershoot, for limiting my reasons to come to you even more. I'm seriously not sure if I'm really interested in coming up for it at all now. :(

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed, but I got my tickets for cheap and I'll make it worth my while... The LWs get me pretty close by their lonesome. Plus, the Old 97's and Elvis Perkins play the same evening. Sunday: Sera Cahoone, Raphael Saadiq, and the Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band plus good hip hop in D. Black and locals Common Market. Monday I'm interested in The Minus 5, Point Juncture, WA, Say Hi, The Lonely Forest, Akron/Family, The Cave Singers, and Modest Mouse.kaiden wrote:My oh my, the Bumbershoot lineup this year might be the most underwhelming one I've ever seen. The great part about Bumbershoot is that there's always awesome non-music things, too... literary stages, theatre, comedy, films, flatstock, food, crafts, etc.
For the price, I'd say it's still a pretty darned good deal.
Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
I'm super-bummed to miss De La Soul. Still, it doesn't seem like they're doing the old trick of scheduling all the indie rock bands at the exact same time, then all the hip hop acts at the same time.
Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
I almost couldn't tell if they are or not, because I honestly have no idea who 90% of the bands playing even are. I'm not THAT old, crotchety and behind the times, either. It just seems like every year the lineup gets a little more obscure and underwhelming. I'll try to see the positive in it: Maybe I can use this as a way to branch out in my musical tastes.
Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
I'd definitely go, if it wasn't for that silly € 1,000 airfare (roughly). And I haven't been to Seattle in ages! I miss it.

Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
I'm going to Doe Bay Fest instead. You should really check it out. The Long Winters, David Bazan, The Maldives, Moondoggies, Friday Mile, Lonely Forest, and a bunch more for only $30! And there are only going to be 750 people there on and island in the woods as opposed to the ridiculous amount of people at Bumbershoot.

Re: Bumbershoot 2009.
Actually he suggested that he'll be premiering it at Doe Bay Fest much earlier. Check it out!sour29 wrote:John confirmed this gig on that blog interview posted in Swoon.
