show tonight

Postby John » Thu Jul 09, 2009 4:43 pm

Secret show tonight at the Sunset. We're only playing a few songs but it should be fun. It's a birthday party for Barsuk Grant.

love
John

Did anyone get in? Who played? The Long Winters, or John Roderick? If the former, who drummed? Any new song debuts? Argh! My mind is hurting with questions!

Grant is a lucky SOB. My birthday was on Wednesday, and I didn't get any LW. :(

ya know, my kid is out of town and i totally could have gone, IF I HAD KNOWN. i feel an email alert system needs to be set in place cuz this is ridiculous. i get so much email crap from other bands yet for some reason TLW don't use this format.

"Last night's secret Long Winters show at the Sunset"
http://www.threeimaginarygirls.com/live ... tthesunset

The Long Winters haven't played out in ages, and the band's set was gloriously sloppy though far too short, and featured Michael Lerner of Telekinesis filling in (magnificently, I might add) on drums. Connsumate frontman John Roderick called out for requests from the audience to fill in the band's five-song set, consulting with Michael and birthday boy Grant on the final song picks. While they didn't pick any of mine requests ("Unsalted Butter" and "Stupid"), my imaginary posse and I were thrilled to bits with the songs they did play:

* Car Parts
* Medicine Cabinet Pirate
* Pushover
* Cinnamon
* Nora

So was this a trio line-up, or was Jonathan in Seattle? (and if so, is this, like, "SIGNIFICANT"?)
Oh boy, this news inspires all sorts of giddy excitement. I mean, that setlist totally rules!

Happy belated b-day, Sour, even if there was no LW love.

There was plenty of LONG-Distance love for Sour on his birthday.

Jonathan had a family reunion in Atlanta to attend, but he's back in Seattle tonight and we're auditioning drummers all this next couple of weeks. We'll hopefully have a new drummer soon, and they'll have a lot of work to do with us to get ready for the Doe Bay festival a little over a month away. Sorry I didn't mention the secret show sooner, but it was a birthday party for Grant and he kept it a secret until close to the end.

These little tidbits of news are all the love a boy can want on his birthday. Thanks Lies' and JR. <3

That is an awesome, mini-birthday-sized setlist. I approve.

Is it a stretch to think that Michael Lerner might be the brother or other-relation-type for the wonderful Erika Lerner of Barsuk Street Team infamy?

Also, I love the band's original setlist. Free As A Bird is underrated, imo.

Michael Lerner is Erica's younger brother, drummer and singer of the band Telekinesis. The guitar player of Telekinesis is Dave Broecker, formerly of Vanderslice's band, originally the bass player of The Prom. Telekinesis are on Merge, but they're managed by Josh Rosenfeld of Barsuk. See?

I'm starting to. I think I would benefit from a Barsuk-family tree. Being so far removed from Seattle, I miss out on all these nuances -- and awesome bands.

Oh my gosh, The Prom. I had forgotten all about them. I used to see them quite a bit. I remember being sad when they called it quits.

Wait til it's revealed that Eric Elbogan from Say Hi is playing guitar in Dave Bazan's new kickass band.

That'd be a great idea, although I think that would end up as a jungle rather than just a tree!

Happy birthday from this side of the world, too!

Another drummer named "Michael" in Seattle. Something is going on here...
