John on the Back to Work Podcast with Merlin Mann
John is the guest on the 8/30/2011 episode of the Back to Work podcast with Merlin Mann: http://5by5.tv/b2w/31. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but Merlin and John are always hilarious together.

It seems to have led to something I can't quite describe, but Roderick Is On The Line.
Re: John on the Back to Work Podcast with Merlin Mann
The sheer number of random topics John and Merlin can cover in an hour always astounds me. Also I forgot to point out that in the Back to Work podcast John mentions John Hodgman gave him a nudge to finish the album. This apparently led to John getting back to writing songs so it would seem we all owe Hodgman thanks.

I was thinking exactly the same when listened to that bit of the podcast!pahouk wrote: it would seem we all owe Hodgman thanks.
And of course I was wondering how we could further use Hodgman's power to our advantage. Hmmm....

You missed the fruity pleasers?

The next episode of Roderick on the Line is up: http://www.merlinmann.com/roderick. I'd like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to Merlin for the show notes since about half of the show references are over my head. Merlin and John are like the living embodiment of Wikipedia. I'm both impressed and slightly afraid.
OH NO HE DIDN'T

RIGHT.
People with Salomon bindings are typically those who step on your skis waiting in line at the ski lift and then complain that you are ruining their coating. Also, you better not let them ride the t-bar lift alone.
Those are great quotes tho:
"those guys stick together, and we're confused and moist"
"he's endured a lot of cello moisture"

Did anyone listen to this week's RotL? Did I mishear or did John refer to Eric as the former Long Winters bassist? Maybe it was just a joke? Or maybe I'm just over-reacting to an offhand comment?

A surreal experience in general (or maybe the term I'm looking for is "absurdist"), I'd say nothing in the RotL podcast is supposed to be taken seriously.

John killed Eric six years ago when he wouldn't split his carne asada burrito with him.

Maybe someone could just ask John?

Re: John on the Back to Work Podcast with Merlin Mann
Eric is really John, and always has been. Eric took on the name of John Roderick in honour of the famous world war II Asian correspondent John Roderick. He recruited a guy called Warren to become Eric and play bass in The Long Winters. When last year at last Warren refused to play bass and instead played guitar on Bumbershoot, Eric/'John' decided Warren had to go. Eric is not from Alaska nor has he ever been there, but he figured with his 6'5" and luscious beard growth it was just plain easier to say he grew up there.

Seriously, pahouk, hadn't you read about the accident? In Central America (Costa Rica, I think)? The thing with the waterfall or whatever? Someone else can fill you in if you haven't heard about that. I guess the circus is covering the costs until his juggling hand is back in operation.

That explains how Eric is able to play the drums and the piano with his foot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bfz7Mkb4 ... ure=relmfuNo You Are wrote:John killed Eric six years ago when he wouldn't split his carne asada burrito with him.

I heard Eric now plays with Slayer as a touring xylophonist. Can anyone confirm or deny?
