Burn to shine

Postby h4ck » Mon Mar 17, 2008 7:44 am

Saw this at kim's underground down on st. marks the other day.. so i grabbed the Seattle edition. Im up to david bazan's performance now, cant wait to get to the LW playing "departure".

Harvey Danger killed with "little round mirrors" going into a GnR "paradise city" breakdown midway.

good shit. everyone else have this DVD already?

Haven't seen it, don't have it. Like to hear more about it, though!

I have it, it was posted about a while ago over in Swoon:

I'm still not sure about this version of Departure, it's too screamy for my taste, if that's a word. As for Harvey Danger, I'm not a fan of the Paradise City interlude, but the French horn makes up for everything.

it was a pretty cool idea, produced by Brendan Canty, directed by Christoph Green. They would have a local musician from $city (in this case, ben gibbard) curate getting a bunch of bands/musicians together. They would then go to a location which is set to be demolished (buildings). Each band plays one song, no overdubs, etc. etc... then at the end of the day, the place is demolished. Basically, its the last thing to happen in the place before its destroyed... then of course, its filmed.

really good stuff on the seattle edition.

Have it! Watched it! Love it!

This was my new roommate's official introduction to the Long Winters, and while I thought it was brilliant, it was totally unexpected and led me to force-feed her the El Dubs album stuff as an addition.

It's a pretty great DVD. Almost all of the groups were enjoyable. The house they did it in was about 10 blocks away from where I live now, on the same street! My question is, why didn't they torch it? I mean, the thing is called "Burn to Shine" right?

...

I'd like to state, for the record, that this was not staged; although I apparently live about a mile from Chris, I was not aware that he owned such a shirt, nor that such a shirt even existed. I usually see him in HD or LW shirts.
