Cause i was wondering that.

.
The "Mr. Big" character is a fellow who used to own a club in Seattle called the OK Hotel, which was closed after the big earthquake a couple of years ago, and the "Ms. Bad" character can be found serving drinks on weekend nights at the Rendezvous on 2nd Ave. The man with the electrodes is the video's director. The other, incidental characters are all serving you your food when you dine at Le Pichet, on 1st Ave.

Oh right, the kids...

They are the exclusive property of their parents, who, to the best of my knowledge, are all Stranger writers.

intro

Postby DrGonzo » Thu May 13, 2004 8:26 pm

I don't know who mentioned that the intro is in French. Well, obviously it is, and let me add some more things about that.

If you listen to the accent of the fat dude talking about diamonds and understand the situation going on, I'll bet $100,000 that's it's a BELGIAN diamond trader from the city of Antwerp to be precise. Please do check and confirm/infirm. But lemme tell you I leave over there and that's how they talk/act, exactly. And here's my wandering spirit travelling.... how the hell did the Long Winters get to shoot such an intriguing clip intro (or video as you say in English but it wahs shot on film so it ain't no video) for their blue diamonds song? Anyway, WELL DONE.

It's a brilliant video! Thanks for the write up, John and Merlin, thanks for posting it. I just wished it was larger (when Merlin can conjure up more bandwidth). Love the Ms. Bad character!!!

Drgonzo is correct, the gentleman that provided the French voiceover is, in fact, Belgian, and the Antwerp subtext is one I never expected anyone to mention. However, the video is a VIDEO, and any resemblance to film can be credited to the vision of its director, Michael Chick, who managed to wring this excellent piece of work out of the smallest of budgets. If he had film cameras and money, imagine what he could do.

the video for blue diamonds was interesting.
i do like it, i do.
it has somewhat of a plot.
like a very short michael jackson video with less dancing and far less court cases.
overall, i approve.
bravo.

Not a problem, Merlin :) I have remained relatively content at this point by listening to the WIPTF cd over and over until the problem is resolved. :D

Boy howdy, is that tune catchy. Very interesting video! French makes things sound so....film noir, no? It doesn't make much sense, but John being slapped at by little girls does give me a good chuckle. :)

better still, the new Barsuk e-card has several different formats of the Fire Island, AK video on offer, plus audio, plus you can send it to all your friends.

Does anyone know where I can get access to a high quality copy of the Blue Diamonds and/or Fire Island videos? I'd love to host some decent-resolution versions on the site, and would prefer to avoid going the YouTube route if at all possible. Mr. Merlin? Your original source, perhaps?
