hey, i thought i'd chime in and tell you all a little more about the session...

the boys swung by before their show here in chapel hill and were kind enough to work up those arrangements- more or less on the spot... michael put together some beats with his laptop (as well as tambourine on "bride & bridle"), john played my electric guitar (except on "blue diamonds", which he jammed out on my flea market keyboard), and eric played my trusty acoustic guitar (except on "blue diamonds", where he played the electric)...

there are a couple photos that i've emailed to john already and when my site redesign is finished, they'll probably appear in some fashion there as well...

it was great having the fellas come through, such a great bunch of guys!

Merlin, for posting the link and intro to the set and Ned, THANK YOU for the write up. They sound amazingly good! Is Michael going to throw the drum kit or his laptop at me if I say, they'll sound better without the mixed beats? What say you all? Blue diamonds is always AWESOME!

yeah, i cursed the real media-ness of the the downloads and then realized i should have a cdr of the show somewhere.

i don't really throw drumsets, i leave that to the trail of dead. i have a picture of the drummer throwing a kick drum into the audience at the Leeds Festival a couple of years ago.

The Europeans better get ready to meet The New Math, who is lethal behind a drum set and also behind the wheel of the band van!

Owww... that drum kit hurt, Michael! Okay, no more insults about your mixed beats, but they weren't as nice as your live drumming.

Did you get your yippy puppy yet?

what a great way to start the day, these arrangements are awesome
it makes me think John's songs would sound good even in a kazoo-only version...
and it makes me look forward to the european tour. (with drum kit.)
and it makes me love cool radio shows for broadcasting these things, and it makes me love internet for making it available

now that is very handy of course! :)

so if a drummer throws the kickdrum into the audience - what is he expecting them to do with it? hm.

The question then becomes, what do I have to do to get a copy of this? :)

the lo-fi solution to the problem:

attach your trusty tape recorder (or mp3 player/recorder) to the audio out of your computer, open the show, and hit record.

The hi-fi solution: download a program like SoundCapture (freeware) and record the show in MP3 format from whatever plays over your soundcard. Just open the show and hit record. Burn to CD and enjoy the soothing sounds (I have 2 KEXP TLW performances this way).

Hero.
I've been wanting something like that ever since we got a cd-burner, but I was too lazy to get into action. I've done some pc-tape-pc stuff, which is a drag... although you do get WAV-files.

Actually, I was wondering how I would get my hands on a cd-R copy of it. Which, I assume, would be pre-FM and about a billion times better sounding than any shitty ass RA>soundcard>MP3>cd-R copy of it. Real Audio sucks my coconuts.

I'd say to get a cd-r copy you would have to suck up to the band. I'm not goint to get into what exactly needs sucking, that would be crass.

Is this available in any other format? I'm having a helluva time trying to get Real Player to work.
